The American public has been told through the media that consuming more calories than the body burns leads to weight gain. Doing the simple math this statement seems to make sense but is only partially true.

My grandmother was a nutritionist well ahead of her time – she never believed the old school of nutritional thinking that all calories are created equal. She understood that fat, protein and carbohydrate calories are different. One way to visualize that belief is to ask yourself – ‘is eating 500 calories of pure sugar the same as eating 500 calories of pure protein?’

How could different forms of calories affect you? Modern research now shows that the calories from proteins, carbohydrates, and fats have different reactions within your body in a way such that some calories really are healthier than others. The key to this notion is your metabolism.

Two hormones are primarily responsible for fat storage and fat energy – insulin and glucagon. These two hormones balance against each other to keep your body running properly. As you blood sugar waxes and wanes these hormones are released – for example, if your blood glucose is too low, the pancreas will secrete glucagon to raise it.

The key is to pay attention to certain foods that affect insulin release much more than other foods such as white breads, sugars, most baked goods, and most processed snack foods. All these foods typically do is give you a short burst of energy and then a let-down. Proteins, however, will release glucagon which can decrease hunger.

How this is tied to The Diet Solution Program is that part of Isabel’s method focuses on balancing food intake that regulates these two hormones which will cause fat burning while building muscle. Food proportions in the correct ratios are key to achieving and maintaining a healthy weight. If you tie that to the right foods for your unique metabolism type, the calories you eat when you are attempting to control appetite and lose weight should result in a healthier result.

The Diet Solution Program Review - Report in Video

I recently purchased The Diet Solution Program again to give you an in depth review of what you receive when you buy the basic package. This is comprehensive and gives you a good sense of Isabel;s great content and value. Eating the right foods for your metabolism is so important, that it is the difference between losing weight and not losing weight. We are all individual and so are our metabolisms. In order to pinpoint exactly which meal plan will work best, Isabel has included a Metabolic Typing Test so her readers can determine exactly how they metabolize food and which foods are 'fat burning' foods and which foods are 'fat storing' foods. The results of this test have been a true 'AHA' moment for thousands of people, finally, maybe for the first time, finding why they have not been able to shed their unwanted fat before.

The Diet Solution Program is exactly what your body needs to maintain a lean and healthy body for a lifetime.

The Values of X and Y in Diet Solutions

"You are what you eat." You've heard it many times - sounds cliché to some but it is basically true. Anything you put inside your body will manifest itself in your physical appearance and can even affect your mental and emotional state. Realizing this, it is time to seriously consider a personal diet to follow that will make you achieve physical, mental and emotional wellness. Indeed, almost every American has some form of eating problems, which is why so many restrictive diet solutions have been presented, studied and sold in the recent years.

It is just like solving a math equation, looking for the values of the x and y variables. X corresponds to what is missing, lacking or in other words, what is the problem. Y, fittingly means why? What is your objective in the diet? And just like algebra solutions, diet solutions involve scientific calculations and problem analysis.

Basically, there are three steps to follow. First, identify the problem. Are you too fat, or too skinny? One scientific measure to use as guide is the body mass index or bmi. It does not actually measure the percentage of body fat, but it gives you an ideal body proportion based on your height and weight. Calculating this, you can identify what range you fall into – underweight, normal, overweight or obese.

Next, state your purpose. Why do you want to go on a diet? Is it to maintain good health or only for the sake of physical appearance? If you ask yourself this question you might want to sit back and ponder your answer. Of course, it is best that you plan a diet because you want to achieve a healthy well-being and not just to look good. If you are healthy, this automatically translates to looking good and feeling good.

It is so very important to realize that being healthy physically necessarily improves your appearance because you will have a fit body and radiant skin. This will, in turn, make you feel good about yourself and develop your self-confidence. Don't end up undernourished! Your goal should be to improve yourself with natural weight loss - not to sacrifice your health.

Finally, after identifying the X and the Y, find the formula to use. Isabel's methods in The Diet Solution Program will fit your individual style and needs. Do not rigidly follow a regimen that is incompatible to your lifestyle. Analyze your physical strengths and limitations, mental capacity and decisiveness, financial capabilities, your daily activities and include your social life. This means that you must know your health condition so you can choose what nutrient you need most and what you need to avoid. Then consider your economic status, what you can and cannot afford.

Also, be flexible your attitude and learn to be decisive to persevere in your goal. You also need to understand your lifestyle, retain what gives you advantage and learn to quit the negative habits. Using these data analysis, you can formulate an equation that will uniquely fit you.

The Diet Solution Program Updated for 2010

From PRWeb.com:

"Certified nutritionist, exercise specialist and author Isabel De Los Rios scientifically based weight loss plan has been updated to include more easy to follow meal plans, helping dieters identify food combinations designed to boost metabolism naturally for eating healthy and losing weight permanently. Both efforts have a vision of overcoming the obesity epidemic by dramatically changing the way Americans eat.

These works aren’t in vain: an estimated 67% of Americans aged 20 and older are either overweight or obese, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Worse still is the discovery by the University of Texas Medical Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology that more than 50% of U.S. women who are currently categorized as overweight by American standards, are actually obese when categorized by international standards.

Isabel De Los Rios understands the difficulties encountered by the overweight and obese. She herself carried an extra thirty pounds on her petite frame just ten years ago. How is your nutrition program different and who would be a perfect candidate for your nutrition program?

A: My nutrition program is the best way and the only way most people should be eating. It is not some crazy fad diet, nor is it some extreme crash diet. It is how everyone should be eating on a daily basis, as mother-nature intended. What most people don’t realize is, if we ate they way our ancestors ate centuries ago, we would all be lean and healthy. It is the over-commercialized and toxic processed foods in our countries that are keeping everyone so overweight and unhealthy. Does it really seem healthy to sign up for a diet program that makes you buy their food and only their food? Or to nourish your body with fake powders and bars? That’s really not how are bodies were designed.

Q: What is the biggest benefit of following your nutrition program and does it come with meal recipes and meal plans?

A: The biggest benefit of my nutrition program is that it is made up of all real food. It also recommends that you eat good healthy portions of food and that you should NEVER be hungry. If you are walking around hungry, you are doing something wrong. You are most likely starving your body of the nutrients and whole foods it needs.

I have done all the hard work for you. I have put together all of the healthy principles into easy to follow meal plans, no matter what your starting point is. I have also included 61 of my favorite meal recipes so that you can always keep your nutrition program delicious.

Q: Why did you decide to write The Diet Solution Program when there is more than enough nutrition info out there?

A: I decided to write the Diet Solution Program for that exact reason. People are being bombarded with nutrition information and either one of two things is happening: They are either being grossly misinformed with information that is the complete opposite of what is the truth or they are so overwhelmed with all of the good information and they just don’t know where to start. What I did with The Diet Solution Program was take all of the BEST information out on the market today and compiled it in an easy to understand, easy to read and easy to implement program. Basically, took the best of the best and saved my readers hundreds of hours and hundreds of dollars in research and trial and error.

Q: What is your advice for someone just starting your Diet Solution program?

A: I would start by incorporating one principle at a time. People get very overwhelmed and think they need to completely overhaul their life all at once, but this is not true. My own nutrition changes took almost 3 years. Now you may incorporate these principles sooner than I did, but remember that getting to your health goals at a pace that is do-able for you is much better than not doing anything at all.

Q: How does "meal planning" fit into the weight loss equation?

A: Meal planning is extremely important especially when you first change your current eating habits. If you find out that you feel best on a meal plan that contains protein in each meal, you must plan accordingly. This often intimidates people and makes them feel like “it is too much work”. But the whole thing really does become second nature. You finally know what you need each day to feel good and lose weight and you just naturally gravitate towards those foods. To make it a much simpler process in the beginning stages, I provide several days worth of detailed meal plans in my book, so my readers and my clients know exactly where to begin, without having to do the exact meal planning themselves.
Y7QRN35J55K7

Butter: Good Fat or Bad Fat?

People are often shocked when they see how much butter I use and eat in one day. But I know the real truth; Butter is a good fat and can actually help you lose weight.

Unfortunately, people thinking butter is unhealthy is a very common misconception. People still think that butter and saturated fats are the reason heart disease is one of the top killers in this country (and now in many other countries as well). The truth is that it’s not the natural fats that are causing this epidemic, its the sugar, processed and packaged foods and overconsumption of refined oils that are causing so much disease (and you can add Diabetes, High Cholesterol and High Blood Pressure to this list as well).

I go into this topic in much greater detail in the Fats Chapter of the Diet Solution Program but here are a few nuggets of info to ponder:

1. Did you know that during the 60 year period from 1910-1970, the proportion of traditional animal fat in the American diet declined from 83% to 62%?

2. During this same time butter consumption plummeted from 18 pounds per person each year to 4 pounds per person each year.

3. During the past 80 years, the consumption of dietary cholesterol intake has increased only one percent.

So where is the problem? Why all the heart disease?

1. During the same period, the average intake of dietary vegetable oils (margarine, shortening, and refined oils) increased by about 400%.

2. During the same period, the consumption of sugar and processed foods increased by about 60%

Those are the facts, but there’s never better proof than the results I see with my clients and my readers. When people finally stop eating margarine, refined oils, “fake” butters, sugar and processed foods, their health sky rockets! (and by sky rockets I mean, gets better, greatly improves, elevates to whole new levels). Not to mention all the body fat they lose off their body (now isn’t that just an awful side effect?)

It’s important to mention that the butter I use is organic and grass fed. It has this beautiful deep yellow color and is not white like most conventional butters. It has gone through minimal processing and has no added growth hormones and antibiotics. I get all my butter from http://www.grasslandmeats.com/

Now that I told you butter is ok to eat, here is a delicious chicken recipe you can enjoy:

(Please remember that the mad scientist in me sometimes forgets to document the exact amounts so you may need to play around with this a bit.)

Chicken with “I’m not afraid of butter” dressing
Ingredients:

2 large chicken breasts (approximately 1 lb of chicken)
6 Tbsp of melted butter
lemon juice from 1/2 large lemon
1/4 cup olive oil
salt, pepper and garlic powder to taste

Directions:

Melt 1 tbsp of butter in a large pan. Season chicken breasts with salt, pepper and garlic powder. Cook chicken breasts in butter covered on very low heat. Do not let the butter get brown. Pour lemon juice in a seperate bowl. Slowly stir in the remaining melted butter as you stir mixture. Then slowly add the olive oil as you stir mixture. Season with salt, pepper and garlic powder.

Once the chicken is cooked through, served on a plate and pour the “dressing mixture” over your cooked chicken breasts.

Don’t be surprised if you are tempted to pour this dressing on your veggies and just about every other food item you can think of. It’s delicious!

Find out the real truth behind healthy fats and get started on your own fat loss goals right away with this free Weight Loss Guide.

The Diet Solution Program

So just what is The Diet Solution Program? As you probably know most of the new fad diets focus on removing primary food composition categories; that is, fats, carbohydrates, or proteins. Even though most of these can reduce weight, disrupting your body's metabolism and nutrition can only lead to stress, hunger and fatigue. If you have found yourself starving when losing weight only to fall off and gain it back then The Diet Solution Program is the diet for you.

The author, Isabel De Los Rios, has found a refreshing answer to this problem - namely, a diet solution program that focuses on an easier lifestyle change with the added benefit of nutritional value. A certified nutrition, exercise and lifestyle coach, Isabel De Los Rios is owner of New Body – Center for Fitness and Nutrition in New Jersey. In her book, she has brought together the best of her background in sports nutrition and physiology with a focus on metabolism type to create an actionable natural weight loss guide that really makes sense.
So, how does her program work? Her basic dieting concept is that with the right foods, you can eat sizable quantities and lose weight at the same time. Most dieters decrease their overall food intake so much when they want to lose weight that they do lose some pounds, then quickly level off. At that point, they have no choice but to eat even less food, which triggers starvation mode and makes losing weight and feeling good very difficult, if not impossible.

The Diet Solution Program is a full 180 pages of background, inspiration, food & nutrition information - as well as menus, charts and journal templates. It is a complete guide that changes your thinking about food, metabolism and the simple preparation steps you need to lose weight naturally.

The basic breakdown of the book is this:
Section 1 - Focuses on meal planning in order to get the best results for your own metabolism diet type as well as a personal program for success describing the three steps to weight loss.

Section 2 - Specifically dives into very detailed information on what to eat and what to avoid - basically, good vs. bad foods. Plus, she has immediate action steps to remove or change your daily habits. Packed with over 50 recipes in 61 pages, she defines all of the requirements and recommendations for good food in your diet.

Section 3 - Encompasses all the tools to measure your own metabolism type such as Dietary charts (such as glycemic index, food portions) and data, meal journal templates, as well as full calendar example of menus for breakfast, snacks, lunch, and dinner.

Frankly, this book is a welcome relief to the current set of dieting guides on the market today. The only criticism of this guide is something that is, in my opinion, just a lifestyle choice - that is, as much as I know the author wants to promote good nutrition, there really isn't any section devoted to modern lifestyle choices you can make while at work or on the road.

It would be great to have some additional options such as less expensive non-organic market choices, fast food alternatives, and work-arounds when you can't get the recommended choices. Our busy lives make it difficult to get organic foods or plan out our lunches at work. It would have been nice to see a section of some options for those on the run. However, that kind of planning is really something you can easily develop on your own using this guide.

All in all this is a highly recommended dieting guide - it focuses on balanced foods, nutrition, and proper health to lose weight naturally. Order The Diet Solution Program today!

Calorie F.A.Q. - Not All Calories Are The Same

Q. Is calorie a bad word?

A. No, it’s not bad—just misunderstood! Most people who use the word calorie simply don’t know what it means. Also, in my experience, most people to go pale at the mere mention of the word. Based on those facts alone, I would eliminate calorie from the English vocabulary if I could.

Q. Why is calorie such a misunderstood word?

A. The American public has been told, time and time again, that people who consume more calories than their bodies burn will gain weight. As I explain in The Diet Solution: Start Eating and Start Living, this statement is only partially true. All calories are not created equal; calories consumed from healthy foods and unhealthy foods are quite different.

Q. What exactly is a calorie, then?

A. According to Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary (11th edition), a calorie is “a unit equivalent to the large calorie expressing heat-producing or energy-producing value in food when oxidized in the body.” In plain English, a calorie is a unit of energy released from the food you eat to power the body.

Q. How are calories “burned”?

A. The body needs energy from food—calories—to perform many functions, the most obvious of which are physical activity and exercise. However, the body also requires energy to function at the most basic level: to breathe, digest food, and maintain organs and systems.

Q. How many calories should I eat each day?

A. The short answer is “enough.” The calories you consume must provide enough energy for your body to perform all necessary functions and activities—and bring about optimum health. The long answer is that the number of calories needed varies from person to person and depends on weight, foods consumed, sleep, stress and activity levels, age, and a long list of other factors that affect metabolism. In The Diet Solution: Start Eating and Start Living, I provide a calorie equation to help you estimate, according to these factors, how many calories you should consume to lose weight or maintain weight. It also includes charts to help you choose the right sources of those calories to support your efforts.
Q. Is it possible to eat too few calories?

A. Believe it or not, yes! The most serious problem with low-calorie diets is that although they may bring about weight loss, they also can cause serious health problems. One common side effect of low-calorie diets is muscle breakdown, which can occur when the body doesn’t consume enough calories from protein. Especially vulnerable is the heart, a muscular organ. If a person does not consume an adequate amount of calories each day, the heart muscle begins to break down, possibly leading to serious cardiac conditions (e.g., cardiac atrophy).

Q. What are the consequences of following low-calorie diets off and on over time?

A. Low-calorie diets typically do not supply enough energy to keep organs and systems healthy. In effect, they can lead to malnourishment. For clients who have repeatedly followed such diets, I recommend high-calorie meal plans that will provide their organs with adequate fuel to repair themselves and regain healthy function. Most of my clients are surprised, at first, to see how much food they can consume on a healthy weight-loss diet—not to mention the high level of health that they can achieve.

Stay tuned for Part 2...

You can learn much more about losing weight, living healthy, and great food in The Diet Solution Program.

Natural Weight Loss and Physiology

Any natural weight loss program focuses on balancing nutrition with your own physiology. Here, Isabel De Los Rios, talks about how your own metabolism type affects your weight using the The Diet Solution Program.

Q: Do you think people can lose weight on a fat free diet?

A: Definitely not. The no-fat craze clearly made most Americans (and many other countries) gain more weight than ever before. Why? Because the right kind of fat is essential to the body and without it, your body can not metabolize the fat you don’t want. So unless you feed your body the fats that it needs, it literally holds on to all the fat you don’t need (and don’t want!). Eating a low fat or no fat meal plan is a huge mistake. Not only will you not lose weight but you may suffer from many conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and heart disease. This is usually one of the most eye-opening chapters for most of my readers. They can’t believe they need to eat fat to lose fat and are amazed when they see the results first hand. Now, of course, eating unhealthy fats (like the ones found in French fries and burgers) is not the right approach. You must focus on the healthy fats (again, as Mother Nature intended).

Q: After reading The Diet Solution I discovered that I am a serious 'Protein Type' - what the main thing I should do to increase my energy?

A: The main thing is not to be afraid of eating healthy fat and healthy proteins. Everyone thinks chicken breasts and egg whites is the only way to lose weight but, especially for a protein type, that is not the case. Actually a protein type may gain weight by only eating low fat proteins and a low fat meal plan. Someone like you needs whole eggs, dark meat poultry, beef, and healthy fats.

Q: What exactly is Metabolic Typing and why is it so important for each of us to know our metabolism type?

A: Metabolic typing is actually a very old science-based way to determine which foods respond best to your body. The best way to describe this method is: the foods that an Eskimo would eat are clearly different than the foods a native Hawaiian would eat. Why? Because their natural ancestors and their environment dictate how their bodies will process and digest food. So an Eskimo will need a meal plan higher in healthy fats to keep warm and a Hawaiian will need a meal plan higher in veggies and fruits to stay cool. Now, it is often not this simple. Each and every person’s metabolism responds very differently to all food and can vary greatly from person to person. For example, I feel my best and stay at my ideal weight when I eat higher fat proteins along with lots of vegetables where as many of my clients do better with higher amounts of natural carbohydrates and lower fat proteins. My book provides a detailed, easy to answer test to determine your own personal metabolism type and then tells you exactly which foods are the best fit for you.

Q: Can people lose weight by just starving themselves?

A: Back in the caveman days, there were periods of feast and famine. Our bodies have a natural ability to make sure we do not die of starvation. This mechanism in our bodies holds on to every bit of fat and every calorie possible to keep us from dying. This is obviously no longer a risk in most countries, but this mechanism is still present in our bodies. So when people starve themselves all day, the body sees this as a potential risk, and holds on to every calorie and fat gram it possibly can. This is why people become extremely frustrated when they “don’t eat all day” and still don’t lose weight. I know it seems counterproductive, but the only way to truly lose weight and keep it off is to start eating. But not processed unnatural foods. Your body will respond best to natural, wholesome foods and LOTS of them.

Q: How do companies get away with selling products with harmful chemicals in them?

A: I hate to say this but most food and pharmaceutical companies are really only concerned with one thing: money. So if they were to actually teach people the real truth behind how to lose weight and take control of their health, most of the food products, supplements and medications on the market today would be completely unnecessary. Let’s be honest. No one is going to get rich selling apples, you know? I think many of these companies are also feeding off people’s emotions. The more addicted they get people to their products and diet foods, the more money they will continue to make. But if you were to get someone to their ideal weight with natural foods like veggies, fruits and natural meats, there would be no food addictions to diet foods and chemicals, just good healthy eating.

Isabel De Los Rios Talks About Misconceptions With Food

Q: You clearly state that soy is NOT a health food. Does this go for everyone including those people who want to gain muscle?

A: This goes for absolutely everyone, but especially for those who want to build muscle. I would even say the effects of eating soy will contribute to the exact OPPOSITE hormonal changes in your body that you want if building muscle is your goal. This is because most soy products on the market today contain phytoestrogens. These phytoestrogens mimic the effects of estrogen in the body and have been shown to decrease the testosterone levels of rats, monkeys and other animals, including humans. It has been known for quite some time that soy lowers testosterone to the point that there is an old Japanese wives’ tale that says women punish straying husbands by feeding them a lot of tofu. Now what do you think that means?

If building muscle is your goal, definitely stay away from any protein powder or protein bar that contains soy or soy protein isolate. Make sure to read labels carefully as it is in more products than you think.

Q: When choosing a protein powder, should I really be concerned about artificial sweeteners harming my body?

A: Artificial sweeteners have been found to be one of the most toxic substances we can put inside our bodies. Besides the fact that it causes brain and metabolism dysfunction, they clog up your liver to a point where it can not fully function.

Why is your liver so important? Your liver is not only responsible for eliminating toxins from your body but it is also responsible for metabolizing fat. If it is so busy processing through artificial sweeteners (a harmful toxin), it will not spend a sufficient amount of time processing through the unwanted fat you are trying to lose.

Believe it or not, I have had clients give up Diet Coke and lose up to 10 lbs in 2 weeks!

Q: Why are artificial sweeteners so bad if they supposedly have "zero calories"?

A: Zero sugar foods are actually much worse than sugar containing foods. Artificial sweeteners (like aspartame, sucrolose, and saccharin) are poison to our bodies. Whenever the body reads an ingested food as a potential danger, your liver comes to the rescue to help ward off any danger these foreign substances may cause. People who eat and drink “diet” foods and “diet drinks all day, are overwhelming and taxing their livers. Your liver is crucial in the weight loss/fat burning process. So if your liver is taxed and not working at optimum, it becomes near impossible to lose any weight. This is why I give my readers many alternatives to sugar free foods and sugar containing foods. There are natural alternatives that are ideal replacements for any of these diet foods, without the potential harm to the liver.

Q: In your program, you talk about good dairy and bad dairy. Any tip you can provide before I buy any more dairy?

A: Dairy is one of the leading reasons most people can not lose weight or, worse yet, are constantly gaining weight. The shocking truth about dairy is that it is only healthy in its raw form. All of the pasteurized dairy in the supermarkets today are really keeping people fat and making them fatter. Besides the countless amount of research that has been done showing us how healthy raw dairy is, the proof is really in the thousands of people and children that are overweight or obese and drinking several glasses of pasteurized milk each day.

Q: Eating organic food is really expensive. Is it worth the extra cost or completely over rated? Will it really make a difference in building muscle faster and losing fat quicker?

A: The answer to this question takes us back to the function of the liver. The pesticides, antibiotics and hormones that are being added to most foods are clogging up our livers. Again, a clogged up liver can not burn fat. And worse yet, will continue to store fat. Yes, organic food may be a bit more expensive. But most of my clients notice their grocery bill is the same once they eliminate the expensive cereals and “so called” expensive diet foods they were eating before.

Q: Do you think fat burning pills are helpful in the weight loss process?

A: I think people really don’t realize the severe damage they are causing their bodies with fat burning pills. Whenever you attempt to artificially spark your metabolism with harmful pills, you are essentially creating a “lazy” metabolism. When you go off these pills, your metabolism is too lazy to do anything. Almost every person I know who has taken fat burning pills complains of gaining even more weight when they attempt to get off of them. Of course this happens. Their metabolism is now "on vacation" and not sure if it will ever come back as strong as it was before. The best way to spark your metabolism is to eat good amounts of healthy protein, fat and carbohydrates all day long. This is what your metabolism was designed to do: metabolize healthy food into energy and muscle for the body to utilize.

Q: Are there really certain foods that are toxic to our bodies? How do we know which foods to look for?

A: The amount of toxic chemicals that are now added to our foods is actually quite frightening. The same pesticides that are designed to kill bugs are all over conventional produce and these pesticides go into our bloodstream when we eat these sprayed fruits and vegetables. The 2 worst forms of chemicals are hydrogenated oil and high fructose corn syrup. Hydrogenated oil is a toxic change in oil to make it more shelf stable, hence keeping foods like packaged cookies, cakes and most processed foods in the stores longer to make maximum profit by these companies. My program teaches people exactly which chemicals they must stay away from if they want to finally lose their excess weight (and often times, these chemicals are exactly what’s keeping them from achieving their desired goals).

Interview with Isabel De Los Rios of The Diet Solution Program

I'm very pleased to talk to Isabel De Los Rios whose recent book, The Diet Solution Program, has not only been getting great reviews but great results for clients as well. A certified nutritionist and exercise specialist, Isabel De Los Rios is also owner of New Body – Center for Fitness and Nutrition in New Jersey. She not only teaches her clients the principles of natural weight loss with good nutrition and a healthy diet plan but inspires and motivates them to achieve their goals and live a life of health and vitality.

1. Isabel, I just finished your ebook, The Diet Solution Program, and get the sense of an interesting and diverse background. Can you tell a bit about yourself?

The Diet Solution Program is really a culmination of my search for answers to my own weight loss and health problems. I can remember going on my first 'diet' in the 7th grade. You name the diet and I tried it. Not until I found the true answers to weight loss and how to keep it off was I able to finally reach my own ideal weight and level of health that I enjoy today.

It was also my mother's and my grandmother's struggle with obesity and type 2 Diabetes that led me to research how blood sugar affects our ability to lose and gain fat. As I studied Diabetes more and more, I found that the same principles that could be used to control a diabetic's blood sugar were the same principles that all people needed to use to lose fat and keep it off. Once I figured this out, I was almost amazed at how easy the answer was the whole time and couldn't believe all of the past unhealthy plans I had attempted with no success.

2. How did you happen to get into the Nutrition industry? What were the deciding factors?

As I continued to work on my own health and weight struggles, I became fascinated by the human body. I was truly amazed by the discoveries I had made in regards to weight loss and blood sugar control and could not believe that this information wasn't main stream. Even worse, I could not believe that doctors and food companies were actually recommending the exact opposite of the information that I had discovered to be the only way to lose weight. This led me to be as passionate as I am now about communicating this exact information to the world.

3. It looks like the ebook is getting great reviews - what has been the response so far?

The response has been incredibly positive. People have been emailing me and telling me what an eye opening experience it has been for them. They also just couldn't believe how simple weight loss could really be with all the right tools and information on hand. After the first 2 weeks, people tell me they have lost weight that they have been struggling with for years.

4. What was your inspiration for The Diet Solution Program? Did you follow some other diet or fitness guru's before your own ideas developed?

Writing the Diet Solution Program was inspired by seeing hundreds of clients in my private nutrition practice in New Jersey. All of the nutrition principles that I would teach my clients was a combination of several books, classes and seminars that I had read or attended and grabbed the best principles taught in each. I knew there had to be a way to put all of this great information together in an easy to read, easy to follow program. Don't get me wrong. Actually putting the information together and laying it out in a way that would be easy to understand by all people was not an easy chore. But once it was complete, it really was a culmination of 15 years of research and study.

5. Getting into the diet and nutrition industry can have a ton of positive benefits - has there been a downside at all?

No, I wouldn't call it a downside. But I will say that I do encounter a lot of resistance to my not very mainstream ideas. I tell people "If you have been following the same nutrition and diet principles with no results, isn't it time to take a new approach?" When people see the kind of results my clients get, they realize that a new approach may be the only way they will successfully lose weight.

6. After reading The Diet Solution Program I discovered that I am a serious 'Protein Type' - what the main thing I should do to increase my energy?

The main thing is not to be afraid of eating healthy fat and healthy proteins.

7. What is your advice for someone just starting your Diet Solution? Can anyone do this?

Absolutely anyone can follow and succeed on The Diet Solution Program. My mother started following the program at 63 years old after a kidney transplant. In 6 months, she lost 40 lbs and has never been healthier or felt better in her life. Not only has she lost a significant amount of weight, but she has greatly reduced the number of medications she was previously taking. If she can do it, anyone can do it!

I would start by incorporating one principle at a time.

8. If there was one Diet Solution secret you could share with everyone what would it be?

Just one? Oh that's tough. I guess it would be to learn your metabolic type and follow an eating plan that is specific to that type. Without this information, you may actually be following a healthy eating plan but one that is not specific to your metabolic needs. If it's not what your body needs, you will not see the results you're after.

9. Any exciting new plans for the future?

Of course.

Q. Hey, wait—didn’t you say that you don’t like the word calorie? Then why does the Diet Solution Program suggest calculating calorie requirements?

A. In the Diet Solution Program, calorie calculation is simply a means to an end. You use the ideal number of calories that results from the equation to determine the correct number of servings of each food type for each meal. That’s it—from that point on, you can forget about counting calories!

Q. If I don’t count calories, then how will I control my eating habits?

A. Use the Allowable Servings Guide in The Diet Solution: Start Eating and Start Living to plan meals. However, over time, you will learn how to meet your body’s nutritional needs without referring to the servings guide. Humans are born with the ability to “know” when the body has received enough nourishment and when it needs more. My professional experience indicates that, unfortunately, most yo-yo dieters and other people who have battled weight problems don’t know how to “listen” to the body’s cues in response to the foods and portions they consume. The good news is that this ability can be (re)learned.

Q. What do you mean by “listen” to my body?

A. The Diet Solution Program is a lifestyle shift that teaches you how to determine the best foods and portions for your metabolic type. Even after just days on the plan, you will learn to pay attention to how you feel after eating. For many people, this experience of “listening” to the body will be new. However, by letting your body be your guide, you will learn how to eat your way to optimum health.

Q. Can I really expect to maintain a healthy weight without counting calories or referring to servings guides or other charts?

A. Yes! It’s how I live my life now, and you, too, can learn to recognize when your body is adequately nourished. After many years of dieting, I reawakened my body’s innate ability to tell me when I’ve had enough food and when I need more by following the same plan I present in the Diet Solution Program. Every day is different; some days I require more food and others less, depending on my levels of exercise, stress, and even hormones. But I don’t need to count calories to know whether I’ve had enough; my body tells me, and I know how to listen. Whatever you do, don’t be lured into the trap of forever counting calories, because that approach is not sustainable—or healthy—in the long term.

Learn “The Top 5 Essential Truths You Must Know Before You Go on Any Diet Ever Again” from Isabel De Los Rios at thedietsolutionprogram.com. This program really opened my eyes to the mistakes I was making in my eating and the results were amazing! I only really needed to lose 10 lbs but the most amazing part was the 10.5 total inches I lost from my waist, hips and thighs. Even better, I saw quick results and finally 'learned' how to eat. I never felt unsatisfied or hungry on the program. I am so grateful my best friend forwarded me Isabel’s website! Thanks Isabel!

Of course. We are now in the process of recording The Diet Solution Program as an audio program so that you can listen to the entire book in the car or on the go.

I am also in the process of putting together The Diet Solution for Children and The Diet Solution for Diabetes. Rory ate a lot of food all day long. Rory couldn't believe his meal plan when I laid it out for him. He was going to be eating more than he was currently eating and couldn't believe this was actually going to help him lose weight. The biggest difference would be what foods he would be choosing. Every meal was comprised of a healthy protein, carbohydrate and good fat. Lots of eggs (whole organic eggs, not whites), poultry, meat, fruits, whole grains, vegetables, olive oil, and raw nuts and nut butters. In order for his body to burn fat, it had to believe it wasn't starving and the only way to do that was to feed it well.

So what can you do to achieve the same great results?

Incorporate both a good strength training routine and interval cardio routine to your workout regimen. Don't just do one all the time. Your body needs muscle to keep your metabolism high, and it also needs cardio to keep your heart strong, so find a good balance between the two.
Incorporate a strength training routine that focuses on whole body movements. No sitting on machines, please. Unless you are rehabilitating an injury, you want to keep your body moving the whole time. What do you think burns more calories, a squat with a shoulder press combination or sitting on a leg press? Just try to squat and raise your arms overhead a few times and you'll see how quickly your heart rate goes up. Keep your body moving through the whole workout and you'll be sweating just as much as during your cardio.

Eat consistently throughout the day. We've all heard it before: Eat five meals a day to lose weight. Well, guess what? It works, as long as those meals incorporate healthy food. Eat a protein with each meal. That is the biggest mistake I see. People are not feeding their muscles with enough protein. Remember, you want to keep your metabolism cranking all day and the best way to do that is to feed your body and to keep your muscle mass high.
Hopefully, this will help you to reduce those countless hours on the treadmill and stop starving yourself to lose a few pounds. I don't know about you but if eating all day and doing less cardio is going to keep me at a healthy weight and in shape, I say AMEN to that!

Learn "The Top 5 Essential Truths You Must Know Before You Go on Any Diet Ever Again" from Isabel De Los Rios at The Diet Solution Program. That's what Rory DeLuca thought. The 42 year old New Jersey resident, husband and busy father of 3 couldn't believe what I was telling him when he came to see me in January 2006. Like most people, after the holidays, Rory was frustrated with his increased weight and was even more frustrated that his previous "weight loss" efforts were not providing any results. He told me he was trying to eat less and run 4 miles every day, but every time he tried to stick to that routine, his back would hurt because of the running and he would end up starving at the end of the day. You can imagine his surprise when I told him that he would have to eat a lot more and do less cardio to achieve the results he was looking for.

Now, 3 months later, Rory has lost a total of 30 pounds and 9 inches off his body. Hi back no longer hurts and he is not starving. He eats tons of food all day and exercises less than an hour 5 days a week. So what is the secret to his success? Three very important weight loss principles that we can all incorporate.

1. Rory started strength training 3x's a week. The key here is Rory was doing the right kind of strength training for his weight loss goal. He was not going from one machine to the next, doing 3 sets of 10 reps on each one. His strength training routine incorporated exercises that used his whole body so his heart rate was up the whole time. Try doing 3 exercises, back to back, using only free weights, stability balls and your own body weight, and you'll see how quickly your heart rate goes up. No sitting on a bench and chit chatting in this workout. We keep the intensity high the whole time and the workout is complete in 45 minutes.

Incorporating strength training and reducing the amount of aerobic cardiovascular training was integral to his success. The ONLY tissue in the body that burns fat is Muscle. So the more muscle you have in your body, the more fat you're burning at any given time during the day. The amount of muscle you have in your body also greatly affects your metabolism. So someone with more muscle mass will have a higher metabolism (This is why most men can eat a lot more than women). For example, one pound of muscle in your body requires approximately 50 calories per day. So if I had two people, both weighing 150lbs, but one was comprised of 100lbs of muscle while the other was comprised of 120lbs of muscle, the one with the more muscle mass is burning more calories all day long. That means that this person can eat more during the day and still maintain their weight and will also have an easier time losing weight. Aerobic training does burn calories while you're doing it, but it does not do anything to increase the amount of muscle in your body, thus it does not help you to continue to burn calories when you're done

2. Rory only did aerobic cardiovascular exercise using interval training. This concept could encompass a whole article unto itself, but basically, your body becomes accustomed to anything that you expose it to for long periods of time. Aerobic cardiovascular exercise makes your body more efficient at burning fat. But that's exactly what you don't want (If your car was more efficient at burning gas, you'd use less of it). Same with your body. If your body becomes efficient at burning fat, you burn less of it for the same amount of work. So instead of burning 200 calories for your 2 mile run, you may burn 150 calories for the same distance in 2 months. So you'll have to increase the distance and continue to do this, just to burn the same 200 calories. This can eventually turn into running for an hour just to burn the same number of calories! I don't know about you, but this is exactly what I don't want to do.

Interval training refers to a series of intense activity separated with short rest periods. You want to make sure that you are constantly changing the intensity of your cardio workout during the whole workout, alternating from high intensity to low intensity. So a typical workout on an elliptical machine would be 5 min warmup, 1 minute at a high intensity (level 9or 10), then 2 minutes at a lower intensity (level 3 or 4). You would repeat this 3 minute round 3 or 4 times, gradually increasing the intensities once you feel like it's getting easy. Cool down for 5 minutes, and that is a total of 19-22 minutes of cardio, not 1 hour! Keep your body guessing the whole time and it will not become accustomed to the same cardio workout.

Stay tuned for Part 2

Disclaimer

The website promoted is an educational service that provides general health information. If you are purchasing a service, we will request financial information. Any financial information we collect is used only to bill you for the services you purchased. Essive Innovations may include Web beacons in promotional e-mail messages or newsletters in order to determine whether messages have been opened and acted upon.

Some of these Web beacons may be placed by third party service providers to help determine the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns or email communications. These Web beacons may be used by these service providers to place a persistent cookie on your computer. This allows the service provider to recognize your computer each time you visit certain pages or emails and compile anonymous information in relation to those page views, which in turn enables us and our service providers to learn which advertisements and emails bring you to our website and how you use the site. Essive Innovations prohibits Web beacons from being used to collect or access your personal information.

ACCESSING WEB ACCOUNT INFORMATION

We will provide you with the means to ensure that personally identifiable information in your web account file is correct and current.
